Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 73

there's always money in the banana stand

The weekly rundown of internet gems:

  1. I’m planning on seeing The Great Gatsby this weekend, but regardless of whether the film is good or bad, I know one thing: its soundtrack is amazing. Seriously, listening to this on repeat got me through the last half of finals.
  2. So cringe-worthy: The 21 Most Awkward Moments in Handshake History. The Ryan Seacrest one is still one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.
  3. This video is very cute, but at the same time, every time I watch it, I’m super anxious and scared for the puppies. Is that normal? Puppies vs. Stairs: The Ultimate Supercut. Also, the pug hopping up the stairs at the end kills me.
  4. Is it too much for me to ask that this happens at Michigan’s Bell Tower? Game of Thrones Theme Played from University Bell Tower.
  5. Laughing at Ryan Lochte never gets old for me.
  6. 38 Maps You Never Knew You Needed. It’s true.
  7. Post-Oscar season, there had been a distinct shortage of awesome Jennifer Lawrence moments in my life. This week brought the remedy to that: Jennifer Lawrence Wins the Met Ball.
  8. This week, in Arrested Development news: Bluth’s Banana Stand From Arrested Development Is Now Real and Maybe Headed Your Way. If this is in New York when I’m there, I’m clearly going.
  9. Politics aside, I find the Bush family oddly endearing. Exhibit A: love letters between George and Barbara.
  10. Things like this are why we all love the internet: Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 71

lucille bluth

The weekly roundup of internet awesomeness:

  1. The creativity of people never fails to amaze me. Here are just two examples: Instagram food art and creative maps.
  2. I’ve always maintained that Lucille was my favorite character on Arrested Development, and this is a good reminder of why: 28 Ways to Live Life Like Lucille Bluth.
  3. And, my favorite Parks and Rec character would clearly be Ron Swanson, who says the best stuff.
  4. This is fascinating: Photos of Children From Around the World With Their Most Prized Possessions.
  5. You know how, if you’re a food blogger, you write a post and try to come up with a clever little introductory hook before giving the recipe? Well, everyone can stop doing that now, because nobody will ever top this: Cuban Sandwiches: Don’t Mess with the Bey.
  6. So good: professor tells student to “Get Your Sh@t Together.” Totally, totally agree with the professor here.
  7. Not even sure what to say about this: Here’s a GIF of Joe Biden Set to “Return of the Mack.” (Who else remembers this song fondly? Hello, mid-’90s!)
  8. I’ve never really understood the Lana Del Rey hype (or the Lana Del Rey hate, for that matter), but I’m loving her new song from the Gatsby soundtrack.
  9. Game of Thrones Actors Doing Normal Stuff Is So Weird. It really is.
  10. File this under “completely useless things that I don’t need, but really really want”: Arrested Development Engraved Pencil Pack.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 68

game of thrones mad men

The weekly roundup of internet finds:

  1. The next time you feel sad, just remember the joy exuded by the Happiest Penguin Ever.
  2. Yes, I am well aware this is a week late, but: 21 Vintage Easter Cards That Will Totally Creep You Out.
  3. I mean this in the non-stalker-iest way possible, but…who wants to come stalk Ryan Gosling’s film set with me? Anyone?
  4. I laughed so hard at this that I probably scared my neighbors: Family Feud Fails.
  5. This guy is ridiculously talented, and this video is spot-on: Disney After Ever After.
  6. I have literally been reading Roger Ebert’s movie reviews since I was a little girl (I used to read them every Friday in our local paper), so I was sad to hear of his death. I thought about linking to one of the many tribute articles that have sprung up for him, but in the end, I think his own words are the most poignant: I Do Not Fear Death.
  7. Yep, yep, yep: Stop Instagramming Your Perfect Life. (Okay, full disclosure, I agree with everything this article says, but I will never stop Instagramming).
  8. A new Gatsby trailer, this time with a little Beyonce and Florence & the Machine thrown in for good measure. There is absolutely no way that this movie is going to live up to my insanely high expectations, but…doesn’t it look incredible?
  9. Brilliant illustrations: See Game of Thrones Reimagined As Mad Men, Seinfeld, and Arrested Development.
  10. Too cute: little Kirsten Dunst and “Joey” Gordon-Levitt on Celebrity Jeopardy. Aww!

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 66

game of catsHere’s my weekly roundup of things that are awesome. Yay!

  1. Here are The Cutest 10 Questions You’ll Ever Get to Answer. They really are.
  2. This compilation was a literal LOL for me: 24 Texts You Don’t Want To Get From Your Parents. Most of them are hilarious, but for some reason #10 killed me.
  3. So interesting to think what might have been: here’s the original audition sheet for The Office. Adam Scott as Jim?
  4. Um, Martha Stewart was a model? Those pictures are unreal – you can’t even tell it’s her in a lot of them. Who knew?! Though, this does explain why she’s aging ridiculously well.
  5. Game of Cats. Totally on point.
  6. This video is nine seconds long but it’s nine of the best seconds you’ll spend today, guaranteed: Teaching Our Puppy How to Catch.
  7. What if guns in movies were replaced with thumbs ups? Thumbs and Ammo. Oddly fascinating.
  8. This is just about the only thing I’ve ever found endearing about George W. Bush: his paintings.
  9. I’ve never particularly cared about Olivia Wilde, but after seeing this clip of her explaining her Twitter war with Justin Bieber’s crazy fangirls, I’ve decided she’s awesome. So funny, in fact, that many of her jokes seemed to elude Jay Leno (who, BTW, can go away any time now).
  10. Paul Rudd, ageless wonder. This is seriously hilarious.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 64

daisy-kitten-2

The weekly roundup of internet awesomeness:

  1. I don’t even like cats, but this one is too cute not to like.
  2. The 5 Reasons Girls Type Like Thissss. I’ll admit, I’m guilty of this at times but, mostly, I’m annoyed with how often I see it on Facebook/Twitter/text messages/planet earth in general. Ladies, we can do better.
  3. Love this: I Want to Be a March Sister. I’m pretty sure I’ve written this before but, Little Women is one of the most underrated movies of all time. And the book is pretty spectacular too (though that much goes without saying).
  4. What a fun illustration project: Windows of New York.
  5. $20,000 is pennies when it comes to law school debt, but this video still made me cry. Also: Ellen is awesome at life.
  6. This sums it up: What Grad School Is REALLY Like. Most accurate (yet soul-crushing) part? “In college you feel pretty confident, because you were at the top of your class…But guess what? Everyone at grad school was the smartest kid at THEIR college.”
  7. Bridget Jones Is My Spirit Animal. She really is.
  8. I am so ready for the returns of Game of Thrones and Mad Men. So ready.
  9. Watch Adele Say “Fank You.” God, she’s the best.
  10. I’m about to type a really nerdy sentence, but if I had to choose a favorite Supreme Court Justice, I’d probably go with Ruth Bader Ginsburg. So, naturally, I love this.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 63

leslie and ben

The weekly roundup of internet fabulosity:

  1. After watching the Top Chef finale, I almost felt compelled to write something about it, but then I read this and realized there was no need: he sums up everything I felt perfectly. Love Kristen and Brooke, hate that they didn’t get a final challenge that really allowed them to shine.
  2. I’ve been feeling way too attached to my iPhone lately, so this post resonated: Are You Really as Busy as You Think You Are?
  3. I’ve never understood my generation’s obsession with The Notebook, so naturally I love its Honest Trailer. Best line: “It’s basically the Olive Garden of love stories.”
  4. Amazing piano mash-up: Game of Downton Abbey.
  5. If last season’s MVP of New Girl was Schmidt (by a mile), this year’s is Nick Miller. Here’s why.
  6. This kills me because I was a sophomore circa 2006 and so many things about this are accurate: A Typical Night Studying in 2006. For instance: lofted beds, listening to the Fray, the Dell laptop, and AOL instant messaging.
  7. Leslie and Ben’s wedding on Parks and Rec was one of the most adorable things ever televised. Here’s the story of her unique wedding dress, which could not have been more perfect. And I love that someone at NBC made a Pinterest board of the wedding.
  8. I can’t get over how cool Michelle Obama is: Evolution of Mom Dancing.
  9. This is a cool concept for a photography project: 14 photographers take one picture of their kids, every week for a year. Some great images here.
  10. Because I love Jennifer Lawrence and don’t enjoy Anne Hathaway so much, I thought this was pretty on point: Why Do Women Hate Anne Hathaway (and Love Jennifer Lawrence)?.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 57

leo

The weekly roundup of internet awesomeness:

  1. David Sedaris comes out with a new book in April. Can’t wait!
  2. 25 Handy Words That Simply Don’t Exist in English. My favorite is #1, because I could use it so, so frequently.
  3. Awesome prank: the drive-thru “ghost.” I love the employee who immediately decided to Instagram the moment.
  4. These are on point: Honest Titles for Oscar Nominated Movies.
  5. When my best friend sent me a link to this article, it pretty much made my week: The 26 Most Puzzling Pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio. So, so, so many gems.
  6. And another great Buzzfeed compilation: The 25 Most Embarrassing Destiny’s Child Coordinated Looks.
  7. Prabal Gurung is making a collection for Target. AHHHHH. It’s Jason Wu madness all over again.
  8. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it at the Globes, further reinforcing my belief that we should all try to be more like them in all facets of life.
  9. If you posed the question, “If Laura were a character from Friends, who would she be?” to the people who know me best, I guarantee what everyone would answer: Chandler. Hands down. Thus, I love this article: Everything I Need to Know, I Learned from Chandler Bing.
  10. Who’s getting excited for Game of Thrones season 3? (Me). In preparation, let’s listen to the GoT kids beat box the show’s theme song. They are all adorable.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 43

The weekly roundup of oh-so-awesome stuff I found on the interwebs:

  1. This is the best video I have seen in awhile: Samantha Bee at the RNC, interviewing people about Mitt Romney’s views on abortion. So good.
  2. Who is ready for the return of Michigan football? I am, and I know the guy who made this is too: I Love You, Denard.
  3. I am waaaay guilty of taking food photos on my iPhone, but this is still funny.
  4. Everything I Need to Know, I Learned from Clueless. One, this is one of my all-time favorite movies. Two, this is totally true. See, especially, number 10.
  5. This website idea is brilliant: Dogshaming.
  6. I have mentioned before that DWTS is my guilty pleasure. This article, ranking the All-Star Season promo pictures, is hilarious.
  7. Fascinating: Class of 2016 Mindset List. And now I feel old.
  8. I want to know how people come up with ideas like this: a cat singing the Game of Thrones theme song. Funny and kind of disturbing.
  9. Questions I Have for Celebrities. I’ll add one to the list, for Ryan Seacrest: Why are you everywhere, and how do I make it stop?
  10. Though it doesn’t premiere for a few weeks, the first episode of The Mindy Project is on Hulu. I already love this show. Reason 1 – Mindy Kaling. Reason 2 – Chris Messina. Reason 3 – This bit of dialogue: “We do not know that he is bad news. I think he has a good heart. I think he’s Hugh Grant in About a Boy.” “I think that he is Hugh Grant, in real life.”

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 35

(Image via Kotaku)

The weekly roundup of internet fabulosity:

  1. My heart belongs to Cavaliers, but Corgis are everywhere this week: singing “Call Me Maybe” and popping up in places they don’t belong. Awww!
  2. I love Pimm’s, so you can imagine how excited I was to see this Pimm’s Cake. This just got moved to the top of my “to make” list.
  3. This one makes me laugh because it’s totally true: Dads Are the Original Hipsters.
  4. Another thing that is funny because it’s true: “Five Ways ‘You’ve Got Mail’ Ruined My Life.” Also, is it just me, or is You’ve Got Mail way underrated, as far as romantic comedies go?
  5. For sure, this was the funniest tweet I saw last week, from Mia Farrow and Woody Allen’s son.
  6. I’ve been getting pumped about fall movies lately – first I saw trailers for Great Gatsby, then Les Mis, then Django Unchained. And now this: Anna Karenina. It looks absolutely stunning. And I’m still marveling how they managed to make Jude Law (freaking Jude Law!) ugly.
  7. Underground New York Public Library – a collection of (perhaps stalker-ish) pictures of people reading on the subway. Fascinating.
  8. A few months back, I posted a video of a kid who got wait-listed at Michigan and made a video riff on the Jackon 5′s “I Want You Back,” asking to be let in. And guess what? He got in.
  9. This project is hilarious: movie trailers re-cut to make them a different genre. Think “The Shining” as a feel good comedy and “Mary Poppins” as a horror movie.
  10. If you are a tennis fan, you should be following Pseudo Fed on Twitter and reading the Pseudo Fed blog. It’s flat-out hilarious.

The weekly-ish roundup of all that is awesome from the internets:

  1. I never get tired of a good flash mob, and this one (inside the Copenhagen Metro) is particularly beautiful.
  2. If I could only see one movie in 2012, I would probably choose the Great Gatsby. The trailer just came out, and it looks amazing. Of course, I thought the last trailer for a Baz Luhrmann film (Australia) looked amazing, and look how that movie turned out (hint: not well).
  3. On second thought…the trailer for Les Mis also looks amazing. Sing it, Anne Hathaway.
  4. A Game of Thrones cooking blog. This might sound dorky, but I think that’s a pretty cool idea – and the amount of detail, time, and thought put into the website is incredible.
  5. And one more GoT thing – a comparison of the characters in Game of Thrones and Mad Men. All are pretty funny, but my favorite is definitely Hodor and Trudy Campbell.
  6. I love this list of beautiful song lyrics. Number 4 is from my all-time favorite song; number 7 is lovely; number 10 is not the Jeff Buckley song I would have chosen (I would’ve gone with lyrics from this one), but is still lovely; and number 22 might just be my number one, if I wrote the list.
  7. A fascinating study in contrasts: Where Children Sleep.
  8. I’m a sucker for a good marriage proposal video, and this one just may be the best I’ve ever seen.
  9. In honor of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, I thought this look back at some of her best ensembles was fun.
  10. Nicklas Lidstrom retired last week, and then took out this thank you ad in the paper. Pure class.
