Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 100 (AKA, My Greatest Hits)

Over the two plus years I’ve had this little blog, I’ve started several projects that I haven’t exactly followed through with, despite the best of intentions. But one project I have not abandoned is this one, my weekly roundup of fun internet finds. In celebration of the fact that this is my one hundredth (!!) time writing a “Things That Are Awesome” post, I thought it would be fun to feature some of my all-time favorite items from the previous 99 posts. So herein I present, Things That Are Awesome: The Greatest Hits.

From Volume 1 – One of my all-time favorite Game of Thrones parodies, Damn It Feels Good to Be a Lannister.

From Volume 4 – Mindy Kaling’s hilarious and on-point guide to women in the movies, Flick Chicks.

From Volume 5 – A supremely well-done video chronicling 100 Years of Street Style in East London.

From Volume 9 – The Kim Kardashian Divorce Skit from SNL still makes me laugh so hard. The Bruce Jenner face!

From Volume 11 – And Beyonce’s I Was Here video still makes me cry. We all bow down to Bey.

From Volume 14 – I can’t imagine how long it took her to make this, but I’m glad she did: One Woman A Capella Disney Medley.

From Volume 15 – Anyone who has been reading this blog for a second could tell you I’m a die hard Love Actually fan, which is why the oh-so-funny Hate Actually article is still one of my favorite things.

From Volume 16 – I’m always rooting for Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to wind up together, but in the meantime, I’ll just enjoy them singing What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? together.

From Volume 18 – This Hunger Games Spoof Trailer kills me. The reaction when Prim is reaped = priceless.

From Volume 21 – Another SNL skit I’m mildly majorly obsessed with, Bein’ Quirky with Zooey Deschanel. Kristen Wiig’s Bjork will never, ever get old. Never ever. (“I made a sweater for an octopus. Plus I left one extra hole for its dreams and ideas.”)

From Volume 29 – Chandler Bing is my favorite Friends character (no questions asked), so I love this tumblr: Chandler Dances on Things.

From Volume 33 – Of all the elaborate proposal videos I’ve seen on the interwebs, this one just might take the cake.

From Volume 34 – This tweet from Lena Dunham will forever and always give me chills.

From Volume 37 – Fighting the good fight against font snobbery: I’m Comic Sans, Asshole.

From Volume 41 – Any comparison to Mean Girls is a good one in my book, but this one is especially wonderful: The US Women’s Gymnastics Team as Mean Girls.

From Volume 42 – My hatred for 50 Shades of Grey knows no bounds; thus, this Goodreads review is sheer brilliance.

From Volume 46 – Overlaying Mitt Romney quotations on Lucille Bluth pictures is endlessly amusing to me, even a year after the election.

From Volume 48 – Beautiful photographs of Newman and Woodward. Doesn’t get much more lovely than those two.

From Volume 51 – I go to Williams-Sonoma and want to buy ALL THE THINGS, but I find this funny anyway: The Hater’s Guide to the Williams-Sonoma Catalog.

From Volume 54 – As any Arrested Development fan knows, you have got to watch the show multiple times to truly appreciate the layers upon layers of jokes: 53 Arrested Development Jokes You Probably Missed.

From Volume 57 – The 26 Most Puzzling Photographs of Leonardo DiCaprio Ever Taken. I’ll never let go, Leo. I’ll never let go.

From Volume 60 – In which I reiterate that I want to be Jennifer Lawrence’s best friend: 22 Jennifer Lawrence Reaction GIFs.

From Volume 63 – The award for the best Honest Trailer ever goes to…The Notebook.

From Volume 68 – Just dying: Family Feud Fails.

From Volume 70 – I know she took some heat for her alleged lack of professionalism, but I love her: News Anchor Laughs at Ryan Lochte. Jeah!

From Volume 74 – Check out these 20 Hilarious Pinterest Fails. Nailed it.

From Volume 79 – This makes me smile: 21 Heartwarming and Beautiful Facts About Mr. Rogers.

From Volume 82 – My all-time favorite Pinterest board has to be My Imaginary Well-Dressed Toddler.

From Volume 85 – At last, a correction to the first song I remember really loving: It’s Finally Ironic.

From Volume 87 – It’s about time for a West Wing marathon re-watch, no? The West Wing Cast Just Caught up over Twitter and It Was the Best.

From Volume 90 – Two of my favorites, being hilarious together: Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake and hashtags. #sogood.

From Volume 91 – It’s tough to think of a better way to spend your Thursday nights than playing the Scandal Drinking Game, amirite?!?

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 78

The weekly roundup of super good stuff from the internet:

  1. The reunion of Ham and Squints from The Sandlot. One, they look exactly the same. Two, The Sandlot is one of the defining movies of my childhood and this is amazing.
  2. Things like this reaffirm why I love the internet: Hipsters Who Dress Like Jackie from Roseanne.
  3. Hillary Clinton is now on Twitter and has the best twitter bio ever: “Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD…”
  4. And then Hillary reaffirmed that she is the queen of social media (slash the world) with this selfie. Seriously, when did she become so cool?
  5. 29 Things the UK Does That the US Needs to Start Doing. Agree, agree, agree.
  6. Back in the day, I loved American Dreams (did anyone else watch this show?!), and was bummed that it was abruptly cancelled and didn’t have much closure. Here’s an alternate ending to the show that’s pretty satisfying.
  7. Game of Thrones Season 3 as Infographics. Brilliant.
  8. 25 Things You Wish You Could Ask Someone on a First Date. For whatever reason, #13 and #14 strike me as crucial.
  9. I don’t want to brag, but I got 17 out of 17 (naturally): How Well Do You Know Mean Girls?
  10. This is about a decidedly not awesome topic, but it’s an interesting read: At the Movies, the Women Are Gone.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 77

real disney

The weekly roundup of awesome ways to waste your time on the internets:

  1. This is cool: A group of college friends recreates the Friends opening credits.
  2. Amy Schumer’s Compliments Sketch. This is pretty accurate, now that I think about it.
  3. The Game of Thrones theme, a capella style. So geeky, and I love it.
  4. Which Grease Pink Lady Are You? I wanted to get Rizzo but, let’s be honest – I’m so not a Rizzo.
  5. Really interesting: Map of the Deepest Linguistic Conflicts in America.
  6. The Sound of Music’s Baroness Meets Robyn. Weird but wonderful. And, on a related note, I could easily watch The Sound of Music on a weekly basis and not get sick of it. Just a little fun fact about me.
  7. I’ve never been much of a fan of Jack White’s music, but after he did this, I’m a big fan of him.
  8. 9 Honest Disney Movies. Preach!
  9. Doctors Give Children Superhero Formula to Fight Cancer. I like these doctors. A lot.
  10. Holy Mother What Are These Colin Firth Photos. And just as the author of this piece writes, I too love him more than ever.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 73

there's always money in the banana stand

The weekly rundown of internet gems:

  1. I’m planning on seeing The Great Gatsby this weekend, but regardless of whether the film is good or bad, I know one thing: its soundtrack is amazing. Seriously, listening to this on repeat got me through the last half of finals.
  2. So cringe-worthy: The 21 Most Awkward Moments in Handshake History. The Ryan Seacrest one is still one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.
  3. This video is very cute, but at the same time, every time I watch it, I’m super anxious and scared for the puppies. Is that normal? Puppies vs. Stairs: The Ultimate Supercut. Also, the pug hopping up the stairs at the end kills me.
  4. Is it too much for me to ask that this happens at Michigan’s Bell Tower? Game of Thrones Theme Played from University Bell Tower.
  5. Laughing at Ryan Lochte never gets old for me.
  6. 38 Maps You Never Knew You Needed. It’s true.
  7. Post-Oscar season, there had been a distinct shortage of awesome Jennifer Lawrence moments in my life. This week brought the remedy to that: Jennifer Lawrence Wins the Met Ball.
  8. This week, in Arrested Development news: Bluth’s Banana Stand From Arrested Development Is Now Real and Maybe Headed Your Way. If this is in New York when I’m there, I’m clearly going.
  9. Politics aside, I find the Bush family oddly endearing. Exhibit A: love letters between George and Barbara.
  10. Things like this are why we all love the internet: Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 71

lucille bluth

The weekly roundup of internet awesomeness:

  1. The creativity of people never fails to amaze me. Here are just two examples: Instagram food art and creative maps.
  2. I’ve always maintained that Lucille was my favorite character on Arrested Development, and this is a good reminder of why: 28 Ways to Live Life Like Lucille Bluth.
  3. And, my favorite Parks and Rec character would clearly be Ron Swanson, who says the best stuff.
  4. This is fascinating: Photos of Children From Around the World With Their Most Prized Possessions.
  5. You know how, if you’re a food blogger, you write a post and try to come up with a clever little introductory hook before giving the recipe? Well, everyone can stop doing that now, because nobody will ever top this: Cuban Sandwiches: Don’t Mess with the Bey.
  6. So good: professor tells student to “Get Your Sh@t Together.” Totally, totally agree with the professor here.
  7. Not even sure what to say about this: Here’s a GIF of Joe Biden Set to “Return of the Mack.” (Who else remembers this song fondly? Hello, mid-’90s!)
  8. I’ve never really understood the Lana Del Rey hype (or the Lana Del Rey hate, for that matter), but I’m loving her new song from the Gatsby soundtrack.
  9. Game of Thrones Actors Doing Normal Stuff Is So Weird. It really is.
  10. File this under “completely useless things that I don’t need, but really really want”: Arrested Development Engraved Pencil Pack.

Things That Are Awesome, Vol. 68

game of thrones mad men

The weekly roundup of internet finds:

  1. The next time you feel sad, just remember the joy exuded by the Happiest Penguin Ever.
  2. Yes, I am well aware this is a week late, but: 21 Vintage Easter Cards That Will Totally Creep You Out.
  3. I mean this in the non-stalker-iest way possible, but…who wants to come stalk Ryan Gosling’s film set with me? Anyone?
  4. I laughed so hard at this that I probably scared my neighbors: Family Feud Fails.
  5. This guy is ridiculously talented, and this video is spot-on: Disney After Ever After.
  6. I have literally been reading Roger Ebert’s movie reviews since I was a little girl (I used to read them every Friday in our local paper), so I was sad to hear of his death. I thought about linking to one of the many tribute articles that have sprung up for him, but in the end, I think his own words are the most poignant: I Do Not Fear Death.
  7. Yep, yep, yep: Stop Instagramming Your Perfect Life. (Okay, full disclosure, I agree with everything this article says, but I will never stop Instagramming).
  8. A new Gatsby trailer, this time with a little Beyonce and Florence & the Machine thrown in for good measure. There is absolutely no way that this movie is going to live up to my insanely high expectations, but…doesn’t it look incredible?
  9. Brilliant illustrations: See Game of Thrones Reimagined As Mad Men, Seinfeld, and Arrested Development.
  10. Too cute: little Kirsten Dunst and “Joey” Gordon-Levitt on Celebrity Jeopardy. Aww!
