After work one day, I was wondering around Clark Street and saw a delivery van labeled “Meatloaf Bakery.” I was intrigued. Was this a traditional bakery with a quirky name? Or did this somehow involve an odd combination of savory and sweet? And, exactly how disgusting would a piece of frosted meatloaf be?
I found the shop and discovered that the Meatloaf Bakery basically makes savory cupcakes – think meatloaf “frosted” with mashed potatoes, turkey frosted with stuffing, and so forth. It’s kind of strange, kind of brilliant.
The cupcakes come in two sizes – you can get a portion the size of a normal cupcake or a one-bite, miniature-sized one. I got a normal-sized turkey cupcake and a miniature meatloaf one. They were pretty delicious, and a normal-sized one makes a nice meal. So, Meatloaf Bakery, you sound odd, but you’re alright by me.
