I will be honest: I jotted down the above quotation over a year ago, back when that episode of Parks & Rec first aired, and have basically been waiting for an occasion to use it ever since. Well, I have found such an occasion: a trip to Waffles Chicago. My breakfast there involved waffles and friends but, thankfully, not work. As it should be.
I thought Waffles was a really cool restaurant. It has a casual atmosphere and chill vibe. Plus, the decor is great – I loved the grey and orange combo that was going on:
Okay, now that the decor is out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff – the food. Here’s what we ate:
From left to right, we have:
- Green tea waffles (green tea waffle with a lemon ginger Chantilly cream, topped with ground pistachio, powdered sugar, and candied ginger)
- Mexican chocolate waffles (waffle with orange Anglaise topped with spicy cocoa powder and shaved dark chocolate)
- Red velvet waffles (red velvet waffle with strawberry compote and whipped cream cheese topped with candied walnuts)
I love that we each tried the more unique waffles on the menu. I can’t speak for my friends, but I really liked my waffle – the hints of orange made for a tasty combination with the chocolate.
All in all, I highly recommend both the Mexican chocolate waffle and the restaurant itself. Go there with friends. Eat waffles. It’s what Leslie Knope would want you to do.
