I mentioned earlier that over the Fourth of July, two of my friends came to visit. One of them will take food photographs right along with me. The other will laugh slash look away in shame as we do so. Despite this, we ended their visit with a lot of food photos. Looking through them, a couple places didn’t have enough photographs to merit posts of their own, yet I thought I’d still mention them. So, some recent(ish) Chicago breakfast eats:
I’ve heard good things about Nookies from several sources, and the consensus seemed to be that the Old Town location was best, so that’s where we went. On the weekends, there’s always a wait, but we went on a Monday so luckily we were seated right away. I ordered crepes – one with strawberries, one with blueberries, and one with cream cheese filling. These were filled with tons of fresh fruit – they definitely didn’t skimp on that. Very delicious.

West Egg Cafe:
Since the name “West Egg” conjures up Great Gatsby for me, I expected West Egg to be a tad more…elegant? Nice? Not quite sure what I expected, but it’s basically your standard diner. Not necessarily a bad thing, just jarring when you were expecting something else. Anyway, I ordered the Special Skillet, which is chorizo, onions, green chiles, and guacamole. It also comes with a gigantic amount of egg on top, which I ended up scraping off. The skillet itself was delicious; the egg not so much.

For someone who doesn’t particularly like breakfast, I sure have been hitting a lot of breakfast spots lately. Gotta say, it beats my usual bowl of Special K.
