While in Nice, I figured I had to take a day trip to some of the Riviera’s other towns. And while there were lots of glamorous-sounding options – Cannes, anyone? – in the end I chose the one that looked most peaceful: Villefranche sur Mer.
A quick and cheap ten minute train ride from Nice, Villefranche sur Mer is a lovely but sleepy village on the water. I say “sleepy” as both a compliment and a critique; there was something charming about this tiny seaside retreat, but there also wasn’t a lot to do there. In the end, however, the sleepiness turned out to be lovely in its own right. The extent of my activities in Villefranche sur Mer consisted of walking along the water, snapping photos of the harbor, and enjoying an ice cream cone. Maybe it won’t go down as one of the more memorable excursions of my semester abroad, but sometimes a change of pace is nice, too.
The sea and the sky are both so blue! You’ve left me with a craving for mint choc chip ice cream now π
I thought the colors of the sea and sky were so gorgeous on the Riviera! And every time I look back at that picture, I want mint chocolate chip ice cream too π
