One of the clear highlights of my summer was heading to Michigan for my friend’s bachelorette party. Over the course of our long weekend in the Mitten State, we bounced all around, revisiting some of my very favorite places (Ann Arbor, sigh), as well as plenty spots on the west side of the state that were new to me. It was so much fun!
We started in Ann Arbor, which only made sense: that’s where a lot of our friendships started, too. We weren’t there long, but we were there long enough for a stop at Zingerman’s, which is always essential. It may be overpriced, sure, but that doesn’t mean it’s not also damn fine food. Pro tip: get a side of mac and cheese with your sandwich; it’s gooooooood.
Next, it was off to Lake Allegan, where we had rented an Airbnb for the weekend. The house was gigantic and featured a huge wall of windows, a big deck, and access to the lake. Honestly, I think all of us would have had a blast if all we did for the weekend was hang out here, eating, drinking, playing games, and laughing a lot.
On Saturday evening, we headed into Saugatuck. After fighting the crowds to find three parking spots (not an easy task), we had a great evening in town. We took a lovely Lake Michigan cruise, had a yummy dinner, did some shopping, and watched fireworks to top off the night. This little town was adorable!
After leaving our lake house on Sunday, we had one last stop to make: Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo. We grabbed lunch on the terrace, took a tour of the brewery, and perused a little arts and crafts fair held on the premises, before heading back to the airport in Detroit.
Honestly, thinking back on this weekend just makes me smile. We had such a wonderful group of people and the whole event made my heart happy: great friends, great food, great lakes. What more can you ask for?
