Though I’m well aware of the criticism Shoreditch gets (see, for example, this, which alas makes valid points), I couldn’t help but kind of love it despite myself. Yes, it’s achingly hipster, but you know what else it happens to be? Very, very colorful, which is a quality I just adore, as evidenced time and time and time and time again. Errrr, perhaps it’s time for a moratorium on the use of the word “colorful” in blog post titles? Perhaps.
In any case, Shoreditch. I spent a day poking around the area and, as mentioned, found myself really digging it. Around every corner there were murals and bits of street art to photograph, some funny, some ironic, some bizarre, and some downright beautiful. It was a visual treat.
^ Labour and Wait might just be the most hipster of all the hipster things about Shoreditch and yet….I would totally buy almost anything there. So.
The bottom line: Go with a hefty sense of hipster-induced skepticism if you must, but don’t discount Shoreditch (and the surrounding neighborhoods) entirely. It’s really fun to explore on foot!
