One of my favorite New York things is NYBG’s Orchid Show, an annual exhibit that provides just what its title implies: an explosion of orchids, in more colors than you’ve ever seen before. I went in 2015 and then again in 2016, but never shared my photos until now. However, since the 2017 exhibit (themed around Thailand!) is fast approaching, I figured now was as good a time as any to write about last year’s show, Orchidelirium (themed around the mania for orchids that sprung up during the Victorian era).
One of the most impressive things about the Orchid Show is finding yourself literally surrounded by orchids every which way you look, including up: orchids dangle from on high, and the effect is more than a little dreamy:
And as mentioned above, one thing that always strikes me is just how many color variations the orchids have. For example, the pale green below. I’ve never seen an orchid that shade before!
Revisiting these photos, I seriously cannot wait for this year’s exhibit. The Orchid Show is a flower and color lover’s dream, and I will definitely be back, camera firmly in hand.
